JULIAN ROSEFELDT ART FILM
PARK AVENUE ARMORY, NYC

SINGING PERFORMANCE WITH THE BROOKLYN YOUTH CHORUS
Shown on 24 screens in the round, featuring actor Giancarlo Esposito, the feature-length film installation has three components: the feature film, a 360-degree perspective of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus shown to scale and in “real time,” and five additional screens, each containing a drummer. The drummers accompany the Brooklyn Youth Chorus whose voices fill the hall in harmony with music composed by Samy Moussa. The result is as jarring as it is soothing.

Artist and filmmaker Julian Rosefeldt creates elaborately staged films that investigate the power of language and the conventions of cinema as an allegory for societal and individual behaviors. He continues this examination with Euphoria, which explores capitalism, colonialism, and the influential effects of unlimited economic growth in society.
